alchemy of belonging
How to belong when the self has come apart?
Produced during Huck’s latest art residency at The Artist’s House, Cape Town, South Africa (April–May 2026), this body of work emerges from the experience of a self fractured through displacement and early wounding.
Ink acts as the alchemical substance of this practice, a fluid that transforms on contact. The work approaches brokenness not as an endpoint, but as what happens when through sustained dialogue fragments are held up to the light as a whole.
What once felt irreconcilable now forms something alive and one’s own, where fracture is not erased but held as integral form.
The work was research-based and developed in ongoing guidance from a psychoanalyst through guided self-inquiry and reflection.
