About the artist
Daria Huck is a nomadic Russian-German visual artist. Her research-based practice investigates rootlessness, belonging and identity through ink and photography. Her work emerges from a personal history of immigration, early rupture, and a rootless life across continents and languages.
Born in Russia, raised inside theatre walls as the daughter of an opera singer, brought to Germany as an adolescent, she later became a full-time traveler, turning movement into an ongoing negotiation of identity within that condition.
Her formal education spans arts, photography, cultural studies and sociology in Germany, complemented by independent studies of artistic traditions within their original contexts, from Chinese ink in a Taoist monastery in China to indigenous storytelling techniques in Australia.
Alongside visual art, Huck works as a cross-cultural educator and advocate for migrant rights, after leaving a career as a director in a global corporate environment.

artist statement
I investigate belonging and the future of collective life in the context of societies increasingly shaped by migration, cultural diversity, polarization, and digitally mediated realities. I am interested in what happens when the different parts are held up to the light as a whole, where fragmentation itself becomes the material of my work.
This is what I explore through ink and photography. Ink acts as the alchemical substance of this process that transforms on contact, while photography offers a frame that contains experience safely.
Creating and living out of one suitcase and a mobile studio across countries and languages without a fixed home base, I approach every new place as my active collaborator, through deep engagement with local environments, waters, minerals, papers, cultures, and communities.
My artistic practice is research-based and grounded in long-term psychoanalytically guided self-inquiry, addressing what resists words.
